IP address of your website

Find the outbound IP address for whitelists, and when it changes.

Payment gateways, banking APIs, SMS providers and some databases let you restrict access to a list of IP addresses. To add your website to such a list you need the address from which it connects to the internet — its outbound (egress) IP address.

The outbound address is the address of your website

Your website makes outgoing connections from the same IP address on which it is reached — the address of its server. There is one address for both directions. The server and its address are shared by the websites hosted on it.

Find the address

  1. Find the server name

In the Control Panel go to Websites, open your website and read the Server value on the Overview page. It has the form siteXXXX.siteasp.net.

  2. Resolve it

Open a command prompt on your computer and run:

    nslookup siteXXXX.siteasp.net

The address in the answer is the IP address of your website. The same address is shown as the value of the A record when you add a custom domain on the Domains page.

Use this address in the whitelist of the external service. All websites of yours on the same server share it.

When the address changes

The address belongs to the server, so it changes whenever the website moves to another server:

Changing the subscription of a website does not move it, and the address stays the same. After a move, update every whitelist that contains the old address. If you plan to go live on Premium, do the upgrade first and whitelist the Premium address.

Tip

Point your domain to us with a CNAME record or with our name servers rather than with an A record. The DNS then follows the server automatically when the website moves — see DNS settings for custom domains.

Dedicated IP addresses

We do not offer dedicated IP addresses. They used to be needed for HTTPS and were believed to help SEO; neither is true today — certificates work per domain thanks to SNI, and search engines do not rank by IP address. Large cloud platforms run thousands of websites on one address in the same way.

If an external service insists on a stable address, run the website on Premium. The address of a Premium website does not change unless you move the website yourself.

E-mail has its own address

E-mails sent through our mail server leave from the address of the mail server, not from the address of the website. Do not put the website address into your SPF record; use include:spf.mailasp.net as described in DNS records for e-mail.
