Where to register a domain

We are not a domain registrar - how to buy a domain elsewhere and use it with your website.

MonsterASP.NET is not a domain registrar, so you cannot buy or transfer a domain with us and domain registration is not part of any hosting plan. To use your own domain (such as example.com) you first register it with a domain registrar and then connect it to your website.

Note

Adding a domain to a website in the Control Panel does not register it. If the domain is not registered anywhere yet, it cannot work.

1. Register the domain

Choose any registrar that offers a good price for the domain you want. Our customers often use Namecheap, Porkbun or Cloudflare.

  1. Check that the domain is free

Search for the name on the registrar's website. A domain that is already registered by someone else cannot be bought.

  2. Order it

Add the domain to the cart, choose the registration period and complete the payment.

Example: Namecheap

  1. Search for the domain

Go to Namecheap, enter the name you want into the search bar and start the search. Namecheap shows whether the domain is available and offers alternatives if it is already taken. Click Add to Cart next to an available domain.

  2. Configure the domain

In the cart choose the registration period (1 year, 2 years, ...) and optional services such as WHOIS privacy protection, which keeps your personal details private.

  3. Create an account or log in

If you do not have a Namecheap account yet, you are asked to create one.

  4. Enter the contact information

Fill in the name, address, e-mail and phone number used for the domain registration.

  5. Pay

Review the order and pay. Namecheap accepts several payment methods, including credit cards and PayPal.

  6. Open the domain list

After the payment a Purchase Summary is shown. Click your account at the top and choose Domain List — the new domain is listed there.

2. Point the domain to our name servers

In the administration of your registrar, change the name servers (often called Custom DNS) of the domain to:

ns1.machineasp.net
ns2.machineasp.net
ns3.machineasp.net

With our name servers the whole domain — website, subdomains and e-mail — is managed from our Control Panel. The change can take up to 24 hours to take effect.

At Namecheap you find this setting in Domain List → Actions → DNS / Host Records → CUSTOM DNS; the steps are in DNS settings for custom domains.

Then create the DNS zone of the domain on our side: in the Control Panel open DNS, click Add domain and enter the domain name. From then on you manage the DNS records of the domain in our Control Panel.

If you prefer to keep DNS with another provider, set individual DNS records instead: see DNS settings for custom domains.

3. Add the domain to your website

Add the domain to a Premium website in the Control Panel as described in Add your own domain to a website, and then enable HTTPS for it.

Transferring a domain to us

Because we are not a registrar, a domain cannot be transferred to us. Leave it with your current registrar and just change its name servers to ours — you then manage its DNS records in our Control Panel.
