Forward e-mails to another address

Automatically forward incoming messages to a different mailbox.

A mailbox can automatically forward every incoming message to one or more other addresses. You set it up in the detail of the mailbox.

Warning

Forwarding to Gmail and Microsoft addresses (Outlook / Hotmail / Live) is not possible. These providers reject or silently drop mail forwarded from third-party mail servers as an anti-spam measure, and the Control Panel does not let you save such an address.

Turn on forwarding

  1. Open the mailbox detail

Sign in to the Control Panel, go to E-mails, click Manage next to your domain and choose Mailboxes. Click Detail next to the mailbox.

  2. Add the forwarding address

In the Forwarding card type the address into Add forwarding address and click Add. Repeat this for every address that should receive a copy.

  3. Decide whether to keep a copy

Tick Delete message after forwarding (do not keep a copy) if the messages should not stay in this mailbox. Leave it unticked to keep them.

  4. Save

    Click Save forwarding.

The Forwarding row in the Overview card of the mailbox detail then shows that forwarding is enabled and where the mail goes.

Set up forwarding in WebMail

The user of a mailbox can also set forwarding without access to the Control Panel. Sign in to WebMail, click More → Settings and find the forwarding section at the bottom of the settings page. Enter the destination in Forwarding Address, untick Delete messages when forwarded if the messages should stay in the mailbox, and click Save.

Turn off forwarding

Open the mailbox detail again, remove all forwarding addresses and click Save forwarding. With no forwarding addresses, mail is delivered to this mailbox only.

Reading the mailbox in Gmail or Outlook

Because forwarding to Gmail and Microsoft does not work, use IMAP instead, so the mail is pulled in rather than pushed:

  • In Gmail, add the mailbox under Settings → Accounts → Check mail from other accounts.
  • In the Outlook app, add the mailbox as another account.

The server name, ports and login are described in IMAP, POP3 and SMTP settings.

Forwarding one address to several mailboxes

If you only need an address such as info@yourdomain.com that delivers to several mailboxes of the same domain, you do not need forwarding. Create an alias instead — see Create an e-mail alias.
